by MALLORY KARL Best Buddies Delaware Best Buddies Delaware is excited to announce that our high school paricipant, Joe Walker, was honored as Student of the Month at his school. Joe Walker has displayed outstanding leadership ability as a representative for the Best Buddies Dover High School Chapter, and for this reason the school saw him as a perfect candidate for Student of the Month. Joe has participated in the program over the past two years and has distinguished himself as a dedicated member of the Best Buddies Program. He has taken great pride in being a part of Best Buddies, and as a result of his commitment and enthusiasm for the program; Joe was invited to participate in the Best Buddies “BUILD” (Buddies United in Leadership Development) Program. The “BUILD” program trained him in Leadership, self-advocacy, and public speaking skills. Joe graduated from the program and is now a Buddy Ambassador! He will serve as a leader for Best Buddies with a more active role promoting and representing the Best Buddies Program in the community. He may be asked to speak at Best Buddies events and to the media in behalf of the program. He will be asked to attend program events and network on behalf of Best Buddies. He will also be invited to volunteer at events and school programs. Joe has been chosen as the Honorary Co-Captain for the Gold Boy Team for the 2010 Blue Gold High School All-Star Basketball Game at the Bob Carpenter Center at The University of Delaware. As Co-Captain, Joe will join the top 60 high school senior players from our great state of Delaware at Dover Downs on March 16th. There he will speak to players and donor/sponsors about the impact Best Buddies has had on his life. Joe will also rally the team at their practice for the big game on March 20th. At the game, he will be introduced with the team to coach and cheer them on throughout the game. Joe’s position in the Best Buddies Program is a great accomplishment and proves why he was chosen for Student of the Month.
